Top Ten Tuesday | Bookish Problems that I Deal With Everyday

This meme is hosted by the wonderful bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish.

This week's topic is bookish problems that I have to live with everyday.

As we all know, being a bookworm is pretty awesome. But, there are some problems that we all have to struggle with at some point or another. Today, I am going to complain explain what these problems are and how I deal with them.

1. Paper Cuts

When I am reading, the paper likes to fight back. No, I am not clumsy, the paper just wants to see me bleed. Most of the time, I do not even realize that I have a paper cut until I use hand-sanitizer. Talk about an unpleasant surprise.
For me, there is really no way to prevent these, so I have learned to always have a couple Band-aids with me at all times.

2. Fictional Crushes

This can be both a blessing and a curse. I love swooning over romantic book boyfriends, but nobody in real life lives up to the promise of fictional crushes. I mean, I just want a handsome, smart, funny, gorgeous, thoughtful, strong, tall, caring, and unique boyfriend. Is that too much to ask for?

3. Cliffhangers

Cliffhangers are the work of the devil. I would rather actually be hanging off the side of a cliff than be left with an unsatisfying ending.

4. Lack of Bookshelf Space

I have officially run out of bookshelf space. Books are now everywhere, the floor, desks, dressers, and chairs. It is a fire hazard.

5. Emotion Overload

Books always hit me hard in the feels. I have been found crying, laughing and smiling at a book. Which is all fine, until I do it in public. Then it is considered weird.

I will stay awake at night trying (and mostly failing) to organize my thoughts and feelings after I have finished a book. My mind is already unorganized, but adding extra emotions from books can lead to an overload.

6. Waiting for Sequels

The long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, wait for the sequel. I am one of those people who finishes a new books within the first week it comes out, then has to wait FOREVER for the next book to come out. Some people say that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but I think waiting makes the heart crawl into a corner and cry until the next book is available.

7. Lack of Sleep

I have a rare form of book-caused insomnia. If I am in the middle of a good book, then it is impossible for me to sleep until I finish the book. This has lost me many nights of sleep, and cuased many bad hair days.

What are your worst bookish problems? Do you struggle with any of the ones I do?

  1. Emotion overload used to be such a problem for me!! Now I'm so unfeeling, lol. I used to cry and get into horribly bad moods when bad things happened in books, now it just doesn't affect me so much. Hmm I wonder why... Lack of sleep is such a real problem! My reading time is 11PM-12AM usually and I tend to go over that sometimes... Oops? Paper cuts happen for me too, that's why I gravitate towards ebooks now, lol. Nice post!! Oh the bookish struggles ;)

    1. That happens to me sometimes too. I just lose my sense of feeling because I have used it too much with other books. Now, it is harder for books to get a true reaction from me.
Even though I love ebooks, I will risk the wrath of the papercuts to be able to enjoy my favorite paperbacks.

  2. We were out of bookshelf space a long time ago...we have a lot of books in boxes or sitting on the floor!

    1. I have books all over my floor too! Now I cannot find any of them and I always end up tripping on one of them. But, I will never stop my collection of books!

  3. Curiously I've never actually gotten a paper cut from reading books. I'm not sure how I managed that, but it's true. I do, however, suffer from book-related insomnia - many's the day I've lived to regret staying up to finish a book... except not really, because it's kind of worth it.

    1. I guess I am just accident prone. Even with something as harmless as a book I still manage to hurt myself. I do agree that staying up all night is always worth finishing a book!

  4. Great list! I really hate waiting for the next book in a series. It's leaning me towards waiting for an entire series to be released before I read so that I don't have to wait anymore because I hate it so much. I'm also starting to have lack of bookshelf room. It's so frustrating! Thanks for sharing. :)

    1. The waiting is terrible! I am always excited when I start to read an old series and all of the books were already published before I started reading them. Then I can binge read them (which I will admit has happened a few times).
