Discussion | BookTube: YouTube for Book Nerds

I love reading other blogs, I really do, but sometimes I also love to watch book lovers show their passion through video.

Sometimes, emoticons, CAPS LOCK, and gifs are not enough to sufficiently express the emotions of a reader. For these occassions, video is the only way to capture the pure emotion of reading.

BookTube is a small, but flourishing part of YouTube.

It is the corner of YouTube where book lovers unite to share their unique views in entertaining, thoughtful, and down-right hilarious videos.

Here is a list of my favorite BookTubers.

Christine's channel was my first foray into the crazy wonderful world of BookTube. She is absolutely crazy, but she is passionate about books, especially YA. She has entire playlists dedicated to the Divergent series, the Mortal Instrument series, and the Percy Jackson series. All of her book talks are equally informative, fangirlly, and funny.

If you need any more convincing, she is an aspiring actor. On her other channel, she makes short, and hilarious, video projects. Sometimes, she also goes above and beyond to make videos simulating the life of a book addict lover.

My favorite videos from her are The Noob's Guide to Contemporary Reads, Literal Book Titles, and her interview with Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.

After I watch her videos, my TBR list practically doubles. Every month she has an extensive TBR video, new releases video, and haul videos. She also does fun tags, sometimes even making them herself!
Her monthly informational videos and fun tags made Katytastic's BookTube channel one of my favorites.

Elizzie is known for creating BookTube News. Every week she does a video with highlights of other BookTube videos around the web. It is a one-stop place for BookTube information. This also makes her channel a must for readers who are just starting their journey into the realm of BookTube.

Even though Ariel's channel is not exclusively a BookTube channel, it is definitely still worth following. Her videos are the perfect balance between thoughtful and hilarious. She loves books, video games, comic books, but above all she loves talking about what she loves. Her obsession with anything literary is seriously contagious.
Her thoughtful discussions, informative book reviews, and her series about sharing her life with the world make Ariel a truly unique blogger.

Growing Out of YA?! by Ariel Bisset

He is one of the most enthusiastic book vloggers I have seen! His videos are infrequent, but thoughtful and hilarious.

Alex is a fellow blogger at The Books Buzz who recently gathered the courage to start her own YouTube channel! So far she has two videos, but I am sure she has plenty of amazing videos to come!
Her channel could use the support of other bloggers!

UPDATE: 12/30/15

My amazingly talented blogger friend, Nova @ Out of Time has made her own BookTube channel, called Out of Time. It is as amazing as everything else that she does, so I strongly suggest that you check it out and subscribe.

Do you watch any of these BookTubers? What is your favorite BookTube channel? Do you prefer blog posts or videos? Are you thinking about making a BookTube channel?

  1. I very occasionally watch a video of a book reviewer but not often, I haven't really checked it out that much. I don't read a lot of YA and I wonder if it is mainly the younger generation prefer this mode of communication? I think I would find myself getting tongue tied and not sure how that would go! I love though that so many booktube reviewers are just so much themselves.

    1. There is also a big community on YouTube for adult book reviews too. I do not watch those as much, but you can find practically anything on YouTube now.
I definitely could not be a vlogger either! I prefer to keep my opinions in written form. I am extremely camera shy. I refuse to take pictures of myself, so I do not think that filming myself would be a good idea.

    1. Thanks! I really do think that it is brave of you to start your own channel. Personally, I could never do that. I am very camera shy and not at all photogenic. I think I am just going to stick with my little blog.
I hope you keep making amazing videos!

  3. I think Lindsey Rey is probably my favorite booktuber. We read a lot of the same books and for the most part we have similar tastes. I enjoy booktube a lot and I enjoy reading blog posts, I like to try and have a balance between the two. I used to have a booktube channel but ultimately I deleted it because for me personally I feel like I do better writing than I do on screen. I'm so amazed by how well all of the booktubers do. It's tough and they make it look so easy.

    Great post!

    1. I agree. Actually talking in front of a camera must be so much harder than typing up a blog post (even though writing posts is still pretty hard). I am also trying to have a balance, but I usually end up reading more blog posts than watching videos.

    1. I agree. Sometimes I think it is better if I can actually watch someone discuss a book. And it doesn't hurt that most of the time they are funny and entertaining.
