Demon Kingdom Fairy Tales #1
Published on December 21, 2015
Demon Princess (Demon Kingdom Fairy Tales Book One)162 Pages
Fantasy, Young Adult

This book was provided to me from Xpresso Book Tours in exchange for an honest review. I swear on my bookshelf that this has not affected my opinion of the book.

Adriana's coronation day did not go exactly as planned. She is not even supposed to be the Demon King yet. But in the absence of both her father and her brother, she is forced to step up to the throne and take charge of the Demon Kingdom.

But before Adriana even has a chance to feel the crown on her head, she is summoned to a fledgling mage who has no idea the power that he just summoned. Now instead of wearing her crown and controlling the power of the Demon Kingdom, Adriana is forced to obey the will of a weakly mage who cannot even light a candle by himself.

If Adriana wants to keep her kingdom safe, she has to hide her identity from the mortals who trapped her and get back to her leaderless kingdom before it falls apart.

Top Ten Tuesday | Fairytale Retellings

This is a weekly list meme hosted by the wonderful bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish.

Who does not want to be a princess, a hero, or both?

If you said you don't then you are obviously in denial.

But, since not many countries operate on a monarchy anymore, finding a prince to marry is a lot harder than it used to be. So, I have to settle by living the princess lifestyle vicariously through the wonderful world of fairytale retellings. It helps that there are so many amazing ones to choose from.

Retellings are contorted versions of the fairytales that we all know and love, including Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Snow White, and many more.

And, since I am such a rebel, I am also including retellings of other classic stories.

Despite her rough clothes covered in dirt, one-room hut that would not even satisfy a royal servant, and old "grandmother" who is definitely not royalty, Cecilia is the true princess.
Or at least that is what she has been took since she was born.
She was also told that the disguise was necessary to hide from the evil that her parents, the king and queen, could not escape.
For the time being, Desmia, a simple commoner, was put on the throne as a decoy to protect the throne in Cecilia's absence.
But, Cecilia is becoming a bit impatient with waiting for the darkness to disappear before she can claim the life of luxury that is meant to be hers.
Finally fed up with the secrets and lies, Cecilia decides to go to the Palace of Mirrors, her rightful palace, and set things straight. Until she discovers that Desmia believes that she is the true princess.

Review | Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Scarlet (The Lunar Chronicles, #2) Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

Author: Marissa Meyer
Series: The Lunar Chronicles #2
Release Date:  February 5th, 2012

Review by: Max

Scarlet is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood that picks up where Cinder left off and includes the story of a new character, Scarlet, while continuing to tell Cinder's cyborg/alien tale.

If you're planning to read Cinder and haven't yet, I would avoid reading this review because of spoilers.

After the her complete disaster at the ball, Cinder has been incarcerated. Which makes it a bit difficult for her to convince Prince Kai she's not evil, stop the actually evil Queen Levana, and fulfill her role as secret alien princess.

Scarlet, Marissa Meyer's version of Little Red Riding Hood, fights her own set of problems in the novel involving aliens (of course) and her missing grandmother in France, with the help of another new character named Wolf. Together, Scarlet and Cinder tell the story of the Commonwealth and Earth in the future through their own separate tales.
